Organised by the Società Palazzo del Monferrato and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria, under the patronage of the Piedmont Region, curated by Alberto Fiz and produced in collaboration with the Aldo Mondino Archive and the Jewish Community of Casale Monferrato, the exhibition will document, through 100 works including paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations—some of which have never been shown before— the artist’s artistic journey, as varied as it is complex, within a body of work not without irony and provocation, which has always developed with a sense of questioning, addressing on multiple occasions the very meaning of the work of art.
As Paolo Filippi, president of the Società Palazzo del Monferrato, states, “The fitting tribute – undoubtedly heartfelt, moving and at the same time enthusiastic – that the Società Palazzo del Monferrato pays today to an exceptional representative of contemporary art, for whom our hills were fortunate enough to serve as a cradle during his mature years, is intended as a reflection on artistic language in its entirety”.
Thus, Francesco Pittatore, president of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria, states that “with this exhibition, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria pays tribute to this artist, a citizen of the world who, with his great ability to act as a catalyst, has for many years transformed the Monferrato into a crossroads of culture and encounters, of the highest calibre and with an international flavour”.
In the curator’s words, “The exhibition offers an opportunity to reflect on an eclectic and brilliant artist who was able to profoundly alter the codes of aesthetics and creation. Each work challenges the dogmas of art and of the very avant-garde movements from which Mondino set out. Aldo is undoubtedly a key figure for understanding current events, one of the few to have engaged with language in its entirety”.
