To coincide with ContemporaryArtTorino (Turin’s contemporary art week), from 6 November the franzpaludetto gallery will host a five-day display of the table featuring real fish from Aldo Mondino’s work *Stare al largo*.
In the second half of the 1960s, the artist (Turin 1938 – Altavilla Monferrato 2005) began experimenting with unusual and perishable materials: sugar lumps, sweets, balloons, light bulbs, pulses, ballpoint pens...
Dating from 1967 is Gravere, a hundred smoked herrings hung out to dry; the following year, at the Arco d’Alibert gallery in Rome, Mondino presented a fish slide, the Ittiodromo, a neologism poised between the game of racing and the drama of blood, alongside a table surrounded by an equal number of dead fish.
On this occasion, the installation will be documented by the original design of the work, featuring the table designed by Eero Saarinen, and by three images taken during the 1968 exhibition by the Roman photographer Claudio Abate.
Stare al largo is the first event in the PIÈCE UNIQUE series, which will see a succession of prestigious exhibitions at the gallery’s Rome and Turin venues, each focusing on a single, significant work by a historic artist.
