Jugen stilo is the second instalment of the PIÈCE UNIQUE series, which features a succession of prestigious exhibitions, each focusing on a single, significant work by a historic artist.
Following the exhibition of the work Stare al largo at the Turin venue, the second instalment will once again be dedicated to Aldo Mondino.
From the second half of the 1960s onwards, the artist (Turin 1938 – Altavilla Monferrato 2005) began experimenting with unusual and perishable materials: sugar cubes, sweets, balloons, light bulbs, pulses, and ballpoint pens.
In 1993, a solo room was dedicated to him on the occasion of his second participation (the first was in 1976) in the 45th Venice Biennale. Here Mondino exhibited paintings depicting whirling dervishes and a series of chandeliers made from hundreds of Bic pens stripped of their refills and thus resembling the crystals of Austrian Jugendstil lamps from the period from which the name is taken, devising one of his customary puns.
On this occasion, the Jugen Stilo installation, featuring the large central chandelier from the 1993 Biennale, will be accompanied by a ‘chanukkiah’ (table lamp) and an archive image by the Milanese photographer Fabrizio Garghetti.
