Although it does not have a museum of contemporary art, Milan has managed to remain an active and dynamic participant in the contemporary art scene and to develop its own creative momentum thanks to private collectors, foundations, art galleries and new initiatives such as HangarBicocca. To mark MiArt 2006, Milan’s annual contemporary art fair, HangarBicocca presents an exhibition in which curator Giorgio Verzotti has selected artists and works representative of the cultural offering that each of the galleries has presented to its public and to the city of Milan in recent years. The selected artists represent, albeit necessarily in a highly condensed form, through their generational and stylistic diversity, the very best that Milan has to offer in upholding its identity as a cultural centre of unquestionable stature.
